GST Rebates - Free No Fee! **Attention Foreign Visitors**
The GST Visitor Rebate Program has been cancelled by the Canadian Government effective April 1, 2007.
You can claim a rebate for goods purchased on or before March 31, 2007 as long as:
- The goods are non-consumable and meet rebate requirements.
- The receipt for the goods is dated on or before March 31, 2007.
- You are exporting the goods within 60 days of purchase (i.e. of the receipt date).
- The goods are with you or, if taken across the border at an earlier date, the receipt has been stamped at time of export and is dated within the one-year eligibility time period.
- Each receipt is a minimum of $50 before taxes.
- All eligible receipts (including eligible accommodation receipts) total a minimum of $200 before taxes.
You can claim a rebate on accommodation as long as:
- The accommodation receipt is dated on or before March 21, 2007.
- Or, the accommodation started prior to March 31, 2007 and, if it continued past March 31, accommodation is continuous (consecutive nights at the same hotel). Continuous accommodation that started March 31 or earlier will be rebated for all nights including those after the deadline.
- All eligible receipts (including eligible receipts for goods) total a minimum of $200 before taxes.
